World Class Fishing
|
Since the first anglers arrived at Big Sand Lake in 1987, commencing the $6 million dollar,
5 Star-rated facility, we have been committed to catch and release. To us catch and release
doesn't mean simply putting the fish back in the water.
|
|
|
First off it starts with our guides, who understand
that their livelihood depends on the health of the fishery.
Maintaining that World Class fishery is about applied
consistency. Every season we learn more and more
about these legendary trophy fish. The fact is that in
this upper latitude of North America fish grow slow.
For example the 49 ½ inch, 32 lb Northern Pike caught
by Lawrence Beal is estimated to be 33
years old! No single person can do more to make your
trip a success than your guide. The training and results
at Big Sand are apparent. With that said we would like
to tip our hat in recognition of our guides for a job well
done, as they continue to further the standards within the
Canadian Lodge Industry. It is our guides continuous
effort to exceed our clients expectations and their
conscientious care in maintaining Big Sand Lake Lodge
as Canada's Ultimate Trophy Fishing destination.

World Class - Trophy Fishing
|
|
A Master Angler Trophy must measure a minimum
41 inches in length. This legendary predator waits,
she knows no fear. With ragged jaw and calculating
eyes, she lurks in the shallow water weeds, just waiting
to strike. In a split second you see the wake. Then you
feel it - the pike's power and skill, equalled only by her
fighting spirit.
|
|
|
The challenge of a trophy northern pike draws anglers
from around the world and Big Sand Lake delivers time
and time again. Known for its voracious appetite, this
fish will devour anything passing by. Choose any moving
bait as your way into an intense, slashing confrontation with
one of our big monsters
|
|
A Master Angler Trophy Lake Trout must measure a
minimum 35 inches in length. Perhaps it's their beauty.
Perhaps it's this incredible place that it draws you to -
the cold, deep, clear waters of Big Sand Lake. Perhaps
it's the long, difficult fight it can take to triumph over
tough lunker lake trout. All these things and more,
make lake trout fishing at Big Sand Lake the classic
angling experience.
|
|
|
Known as the "dwellers of the deep," these fish move to
colder temperatures as the spring sun warms the waters.
While light casting or spinning gear is suitable for the early
months, you'll need to go deeper and drop your lure lower,
using either bait or artificial lures to catch the "king" as the
summer progresses.
|
|
You'll never know how sweet it can be until you've
hooked a Big Sand Lake Master Angler walleye.
You'll need a minimum of 28 inches to qualify.
Walleye at Big Sand are plentiful in supply and are
they are a worthy adversary. Once on your line, the
walleye will test your will to win right down to the
wire. And the rewards are oh so wonderful, a delicacy
fit for the shore lunch frying pan.
|
|
|
Walleye prefer the deep and cool waters. Narrow channels
and deep water weed beds are among the hiding spots
these fish prefer. Remember where there's one, there's
usually a school of walleye ready to take a variety of artificial
lures and natural baits.
|
|
A Master Angler Arctic Grayling must measure a minimum
of 18 inches in length. So you've come to the right place,
right to the top of Manitoba. To the wild clear rapids of our
arctic rivers, where you'll find a fish that soars through the air,
setting sail with its long, high dorsal fin. The arctic grayling,
though small in size, will challenge your ingenuity to keep it
on your hook or from breaking your line as you battle its
spunk amidst the fast-running water.
|
|
|
Few rival its beauty and spectacular fighting style.
Grayling are the ultimate catch, especially when taken on the fly.
Find a rapid, choose a small spinner and you'll have them lining
up for your bait. Many an angler has ventured to our far north
for pike, only to discover the added thrill and rapid-fire action
arctic grayling offers.
