Without question the success and reputation
of Big Sand Lake Lodge as Canada's #1 Fly-in Fishing Lodge has been built by the professionalism,
experience and big fish results their guides have provided their guests since 1987.
The fact is a guide can make or break your fishing trip. It's great to have
all the cushy amenities which their 5 Star Lodge provides but don't lose sight of why your spending
all that money and time, travelling far from home. You're there to fish and that means you'll be on the
water from 8-10 hours a day with your trusted guide.

To me, the word "GUIDE" exudes a quiet, understated
wilderness sophistication. Believe me, Big Sand's
guides have earned this stoicism. And regardless
of the "experience of a lifetime" cliches you'll
hear from other lodges, when you get the knife down
to the pig's budding acorns, a guide's success and
your trip is measured mostly by what is caught.
That is the precise point with which these guides
continue to spearhead far beyond the other fishing
locales. The guides at Big Sand push the performance
envelope so far they rewrite the parameters, and they
do so without being one of those stereotypical pre-madonna's
claiming to know it all. Their humble and contemplative,
short on small talk and big on results.

These fisherman of men are not college students dabbling
in the dreams of wilderness adventurers nor are they
part-time boy scouts parading an Orvis patch on their
shoulder. The men that carry the honor and prestigious
title as GUIDE at Big Sand Lake are blazoned with the
elements not only upon their skin but rooted deep within
their character. Like the subtle curves of a woman's neck,
they know this lake intimately. Their scars tell a silent
story about fish caught and fish lost, behind the head casts
gone astray and of a lifetime spent in the bush. They're
about relentless endurance and calloused hands, witty humour
and stories that would make any weekend fisherman's jaw drop
in disbelief.

They're trappers in the winter, hunters during the
spring and fall and define the word 'Fishing Guide'
during the summer months. They're dialled in to nature,
of which most of us have lost and they understand exactly
what is happening on the water at any given moment often
foreseeing an outcome before it unfolds. They do all this
without a how-to-manual but react from the gut and that
gut instinct, that primal 6th sense buried and silent
within us city slickers, speaks to them clearly and they
live by what they hear. This voice has driven others crazy
but for some it has given birth to Legends. I invite you
to journey north to Big Sand where you'll not only catch
Big Fish but rekindle a lost spirit we all possess.
